Personal strength is a tricky beast for most people because they put their faith in things they don’t have in themselves for it. Which results in severe dependency and insecurity.

Now, we all know that winning the lottery will make us happy and self-confident but a recent survey conducted 12 months after people won the lottery concluded that 90% of people who won were less happy and how confident they are after they win.

We attribute our self-confidence to many external factors and make us unpredictable and unreliable. External things are important things, but they are not permanent. Everything in the material world is impermanent, including human values.

So, to grow as an inspirational leader you will need these personal skills.

1. Learning how to master more emotions – Inner Strength

There are two sides to everything. Emotion sees one. The more emotional one is, the more one-sided they see things. Highly emotional people see things as polarized. This is the terrorist in the world, and the home or office.

A terrorist is a fundamentalist. They fought against nature. They want to see half the story. Like, “she’s perfect” or “he’s terrible.” Fundamentalism is emotionalism.

Now the human condition is emotional. So one should not be convinced, like my Buddhist friend, that a monotone experience is the best. We are emotional beings and this is very important to our health, but, acting on emotions is very dangerous. It’s like an actor on stage, if happiness is the right emotion, then they need to choose that experience authentically otherwise we say, “yuk, the person is a bad actor. In life, there are people who cannot be trusted because they are fake. their emotions.

Therefore, the practice, rather than repressing the emotion, is to accept it, label it honestly, then let it go or transform it into a more inspirational state of mind. It’s not fake…

For the shortest understanding of this process of emotional transfer, just ask yourself “what is the other side of this? If you already see the good, look for the negative. If you already see the bad, look for the positive. Automatically cancels of this process the emotional reaction. Saves. energy.

Then, choose your state of mind based on your vision. Inspire yourself…

2. Adapting to change – Changing shape. Mastering change is the most profound and powerful skill of leaders. The key here is to understand that nothing is permanent. Everything changes. Life, career and relationships work best on the border between chaos and order. So, change is permanent.

We all recognize that contingency plans are a sign of good leadership. Choices. The best leader is the one who can implement plan b, fastest. In the real world, plan a sometimes succeeds, but often we are required to adapt our plans as circumstances change. This is not surrender. Rather, it means maintaining a fixed goal with a different process.

This is the FIT trilogy. Strategy, structure, culture. Or at home, dreams, possessions and ideas. Adaptation is a way of deciding which of the three is the anchor point and adjusting the others accordingly.

In the time between the realization that adaptation is necessary, and the adaptation of plans, there may be only a nano second or a month. In that time, the precious time of pondering your options, we remove the emotion, not react and then weigh the options. I call it, coming home to neutral.

To be confident in the choices we make in adaptation, one must have a neutral space to return to. In other words, between plan a and plan b there is a neutral. Like driving a car that changes from forward to reverse, finding neutral is necessary. Pause for a moment, then adjust.

More often than not, these adaptations are automatic. Like climbing a cliff, if the handhold is not strong, we look for something better nearby. It’s small adjustments that keep us on track. However, sometimes the resistance is too great and we have to go around the overhanging rock. So, we have to stop and re-engineer the plan.

The reason people can’t get to this place of neutral is because they panic or react. It sounds like a trigger and they are afraid of the silence. This happens because we lose our flexibility – we get too attached to forms.

As children we adapt but the more intelligence we invest and the more obsessed we become with being right. Until we become insecure as children, and start trying to please people, we are not completely attached to the form, we develop attachment, become fixed, resistant and tough because we are afraid. As leaders, fear is not a good motivator.

So, what is a better option than form attachment?

Nothing. Yes, that’s the answer. Nothing.

Learning to be self-confident based on emptiness. Let me explain. Every thought is an object and therefore impermanent. Every belief and value can be disturbed and contested. They’re important, but we’re trying to get to a deeper place of unbreakable confidence here.

Silence is a powerful place. It is portable, does not require acceptance, does not change and can, like a film director sitting behind the screen ready to support you. So, the world may come unstuck, but you are there, present, in the moment, ready.

Neutral is empty. How quickly can you find neutral? What process do you have in you that helps you find the neutral mood?

When the pressure is on, and you need to act quickly but carefully, this skill is essential.

3/ Spread your experiences (7 parts of life) 3 principles…(not all eggs in one basket.

Many dead climbers in Nepal. Some met with unfortunate accidents, some took extraordinary risks. Good judgment in the Nepal Himalayas is an invaluable gift. Experience is not a good teacher in Nepal, most people die having experience that could save their life.

Bad judgment comes when we throw ourselves into something without moderation. We teach trekkers, “never give 100%, keep something back.”

The most desperate people are those whose personal life has gone to hell and they throw everything at a climb, a job, a relationship, a philosophy or something similar.

It’s the trigger for big mistakes, dubious teamwork and broken trust. This is also the cause of massive depression. Within the next 2 years, one in four of your team will be, or have been, on medication for depression.

There are three things that give a good life.

a/ Someone to love

b/ something to do

c/ something expected.

In their absence, 4 substitutes kick in:

1/ Food (substance)

2/ Greed

3/ Sexuality

4/ Spirituality

The problem with these four substitutions is that they mask underlying problems and lead to obsessive or addictive behavior. They blind people and lead to naivety in decision making.

4/ Don’t fake it – being real is the transition from desperation to inspiration People challenge your leadership because in every situation there is a hierarchy of ways to see it. The lowest is highly emotional (fear and guilt) and the highest is detached (my Buddhist friend).

So, as a leader, entrepreneur, artist, musician, parent, guide, consultant, boss, friend…challenged because we are being tested… Do you really have more certainty than those you lead?

The lowest reaction is a highly uncertain one. Thus, those people created a strong physical and upright moral stance.

Once upon a time, it was fake until you make it the honor code of all great leaders. In Nepal, I still see this autocratic style of leadership in some East European and Military teams. But for others, especially in Japan, Korea, the US and Canada, the person with the most certainty takes the lead.

This clarity is true. It is based on real knowledge, real experience, real training, real capacity to handle uncertainty.
